This guest post is from the wonderful Alison Blackler, award-winning Mind Coach, author and TEDx speaker, sharing her powerful approach to starting 2026 with true inner alignment.

The calendar is turning to 2026, and you already feel it: the pressure to Set the Goal. Make the Plan. Be a New You. But let’s be honest—if you’re like most people, that ambitious resolution is often gone by February, replaced by guilt and frustration.

Why do these well-meaning, conscious goals fail? Because your conscious mind only sets the destination, but your unconscious mind holds the map—and sometimes, it’s directing you right back to square one.

At 2minds, I believe true, lasting transformation starts deeper. As founder, I know it’s not just about doing more; it’s about unhitching the silent anchors of the past that are sabotaging your future.

The Goal-Setting Trap: Your Unconscious is the Boss

You can consciously set any goal, but if your unconscious mind holds an old belief that “success is too stressful” or “you’re not qualified,” your actions will consistently fail to align with your intention.

We call this friction the 2-minds Conflict. The secret to a successful 2026 isn’t a better to-do list; it’s achieving 2-minds Alignment.

Here are two powerful, practical ways to approach the new year—one for setting rock-solid strategies, and one for choosing radical self-acceptance.

Option 1: Strategic Goal Setting

This three-step approach ensures your goals are supported by your deepest self, not sabotaged by it.

Step 1: Unhitch the Past

Before you set the next goal, look honestly at the last one that failed. What was the internal block? Was it fear? Doubt? A persistent belief about your worth? Where were you getting in your own way?

Practical Action: Identify one past experience or limiting belief that keeps showing up (e.g., “I don’t finish things,” or “I’m not good with money”). This is the anchor. Acknowledging this blockage helps to neutralise the emotional charge so it loses its power to drive your current behaviour.

Step 2: Language Lockdown – Master Your Beliefs

Your self-talk is the operating system of your unconscious. Most people unknowingly use destructive language that reinforces limiting beliefs.

Practical Action: Audit your internal language for two weeks. When facing a challenge, do you instantly say, “I always mess this up” or “I can’t figure this out”? Identify your top three negative phrases. Then, instantly replace them with new, powerful language focused on possibility (e.g., “I’m currently learning how to master this,” or “I am capable of figuring this out”). Control the script to control the outcome.

Step 3: Set a Goal – Chuck It Down

Once the internal anchors and language are aligned, the strategy becomes clear and executable. It’s no longer a struggle; it’s simply the next logical step.

Practical Action: Define the single, highest-leverage action you need to take this month that your aligned self can commit to. Your focus shifts from worrying about the big goal to executing the strategy right in front of you.

Option 2: The Radical Rejection (No Goal Strategy)

What if you skipped goals altogether in 2026 and instead committed to deepening your internal self-mastery? This approach is ideal if you are constantly burning out or feel immense pressure from traditional goal setting.

Your focus for 2026 becomes: Identify, Align, and Be.

  1. Focus on Identity, Not Outcome

Instead of saying, “My goal is to run a marathon,” define your desired identity: “I am a resilient, energetic person who prioritises movement.”

Practical Action: Choose three core identity statements that reflect how you want to feel and be (e.g., I am a clear communicator. I am a calm leader. I am financially empowered.). Let every action flow from this powerful new identity.

  1. Live in the Clarity of Now

When you remove the future-focused stress of a rigid goal, you gain the clarity needed to make powerful decisions in the present moment. This is your personal power zone.

Practical Action: Commit to being radically honest about your energy levels, priorities, and boundaries. If an opportunity doesn’t align with your core identity, say “No” without apology. Your unconscious rewards honesty and alignment with effortless action.

  1. Make Peace with the Past

If you choose the “no goal” path, your only resolution is to completely unhitch any lingering resentment or guilt from 2025 (or before).

Practical Action: Dedicate time each week to practising self-compassion. Recognise that your past behaviours were driven by your unconscious beliefs and not by a lack of willpower. By doing this inner work, you naturally free up the energy needed for effortless, aligned progress, without ever needing a rigid target.

Whether you choose Strategic Goal Setting or Radical Identity Alignment, the key is the same: stop fighting yourself.

As Alison from 2minds knows, your true success isn’t just an external achievement; it’s the seamless operation of your two minds.
