There’s something quite magical about having houseplants around your home. Plants carry a calming, grounding energy that can help shift the mood of your space entirely. Every plant carries its own unique energy: grounding, calming, uplifting, or even protective. When we bring one into a home, we’re bringing a part of nature inside and this can be one of the easiest ways to boost our daily wellbeing in quite a powerful way. They can purify the air and space around you and clear stagnant air (and energy) around you.
Here are some plants you can have indoors that’ll boost both your health and wellbeing
How can plants help boost your wellbeing? Here’s a few reasons why:
- Plants help to refresh the air you breathe, removing toxins and boosting oxygen levels. Clearer air can help fight fatigue and even improve your concentration.
- It can be a relaxing, mindful ritual: the watering (or misting) of your lovely plants, along with checking for new growth and the general health… these can be little rituals that can break up your day, giving you a moment to focus on something else and calm your mind.
- Nature is healing… studies say that even looking at plants and nature can help with your focus and your mood.
Here are some of our favourite houseplants that offer wellbeing benefits:

- Peace lily – known for its air purifying qualities and it’s calming effects too.
- Lavender – dwarf varieties do well indoors and lavender is known for its calming scent. It also thrives in bright, indoor spaces.
- Rosemary – this sensory delight improves memory and focus… plus you can cook with them!
- Snake plant – a low maintenance joy that releases oxygen at night…a great addition to the bedroom.

- Spider plant – a great plant for air purification
- Aloe Vera – a soothing plant that’s beautiful to look at and their gel is great for sunburns
- Philodendron – Their lovely heart-shaped leaves and easy-going nature make it a favourite for reducing stress … they can also add a beautiful softness to a room.
- English Ivy – The fabulous English ivy is excellent for air purification and known to reduce airborne mould, which can support respiratory health.
A quick note if you have pets: do your research as not all houseplants are pet friendly, they can be toxic to animals so double check whether a plant is pet safe before bringing it home.
