We’re all about holistic beauty and wellbeing and we love hearing about how other people are managing there’s and finding out all about their favourite products and practices- you know …the things that enable them to be their best selves…
Here’s our brand new My Beauty and Wellbeing feature with Nicola Jones, the founder of skincare brand Face Junkie.
Let’s talk a little bit about your relationship with your own wellbeing… what has your journey been like?
I’ve always aligned wellness with my skincare routine. I was inspired from an early age living with my nan who made healthy Mediterranean food which is great for the skin with plenty of fish and vegetables. She used to give me a teaspoon of olive oil every day, which I hated, but now I love it and I remember watching her slathering her face with moisturiser. That was the blueprint of my wellness journey.
You believe that beauty starts from within…how does this look to you?
Beauty is a state of mind. People who are happy, contented, and confident within themselves are the most beautiful people and when that radiates it shows on the outside.
How has your background as a beauty therapist and facialist impacted your skincare brand?
I was lucky enough to work with the biggest skincare brands out there so over the years I collected all my favourite features from each brand and created my dream skincare range.
What is your typical morning skincare routine like? And your nighttime routine?
I use our Hero Collection every day. The morning products are so uplifting, my favourite ingredient is Neroli Oil and it’s in all 3 of our AM products. It’s a natural antioxidant for the skin, plus it evokes a sense wellbeing with its luxurious scent. My evening routine is our 3 PM products which is all about detox, removing pollution and regenerating my skin while I sleep.
From your experience, what are some of the biggest wellbeing challenges that women in particular need to overcome?
Most women I know are time poor and that can impact our wellbeing, but wellness doesn’t need to be 3 days in a spa, it can be 10 minutes just doing your skincare routine with a candle burning and listening to a podcast or doing a gentle stretch before bed to move the body, releasing tension and stress.
Wow Beauty is committed to encouraging self-care, through the alignment of mind, body and spirit: what are some of your non-negotiable self-care rituals?
I love Yin Yoga for my mental wellbeing. You don’t have to be a yoga expert as it’s all about just being still and stretching the body. I do this before bed at least twice a week. I’m religious with my skincare routine, especially now that I’m 50. I love using our Facial Roller every evening for lymphatic drainage and to release facial tension especially around my eyes and jawline.
What changes would you like to see in the beauty & /or wellness industry over the next year or so?
My vision for Face Junkie was a brand that not only delivers great skin but also provides a daily drop of wellbeing via the aromatherapeutic benefits of the products. I would like to see more emphasis on mental wellbeing via the skincare industry, especially as a lot of women use this time for self-care during their busy schedules.
